This past week brought our children back to school and us back to the projects we had started earlier in the summer. For Ericka that meant watercolors, she painted the most amazing rooster, and my personal favorite “Lady in Red with a Big Hat.”

For me that meant finishing a shirt/dress I had started months ago. I think the pattern instructions overwhelmed me so I walked away from it for a while. However when I came back to it I decided I would finish it without the directions and only use my common sense. Turns out I have decent common senseJ I was able to overcome some issues with the side seems and a flounce ruffle. Now the inside is not as pretty but other than me whose going to see that? Instead I gained some valuable confidence and learned by doing. The next one will be much better :) ~Mel
