Soooo when we first moved here my oldest son had this humongous loft bed complete with bookshelves on both sides. It took up waaaaay too much space so my husband and I got him a new bed. Upon disassembling it stacks of shelves laid in the hallway for what seemed like weeks. I would not let anyone throw them away because I knew I wanted to do something with all that wood, I just wasn't sure what:-)
After an afternoon of walking around Hale'iwa (hollay-eva) I came home inspired by much of the local sign art. So a project was born.

First I sanded them down then painted a solid coat of colorful, beachiful, Alohaful paint.
Then white washed on top of it with a dry brush.
Then the fun part, as if all of this hasn't been fun (hehe!) was picking out the pictures to decoupage onto the top.
Right now I am really inspired by the vintage postcards, so I found some images on google. I saved them on powerpoint which allowed me to resize them. Then I printed them and adhered them to my boards.
Finally I sealed them with a polycrylic spray.
And PAU!! These are now proudly displayed in my kitchen:-)
Sometimes we like to be creative on canvas and paper....so much more to add.
